After nearly three years of legal proceedings following its bankruptcy in November 2022, FTX will start repaying creditors on February 18, 2025. Creditors with claims of $50,000 or less—classified as “Convenience Class”—will receive full repayment plus 9% annual interest from November 11, 2022.
The Joint Official Liquidators of FTX Digital Markets Ltd. confirmed that eligible creditors will receive distributions within three business days. Payments will be processed through BitGo, a digital asset custody provider, and recipients must confirm account details via the FTX Digital Claim Portal. To ensure transparency in the distribution process, a formal record of calculations will follow.

The FTX Fallout
Once a leading cryptocurrency exchange, FTX collapsed in November 2022 due to a severe liquidity crisis. Investigations revealed that Alameda Research, a trading firm closely tied to the exchange, misused customer funds to cover losses. This triggered a withdrawal surge the exchange could not fulfill, forcing its bankruptcy.
Former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried resigned and was later convicted of fraud and conspiracy, receiving a 25-year prison sentence. Other former executives, including Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang, also faced legal consequences. The collapse sent shockwaves across the crypto industry, leading to increased regulatory scrutiny.
While smaller creditors will be repaid first, larger claims remain pending. FTX’s new management, led by CEO John J. Ray III, continues asset recovery efforts, including lawsuits against former executives and third parties. Additional creditor distributions will be announced as proceedings advance.
The upcoming repayments are expected to provide much-needed relief to creditors and move the exchange closer to settling its obligations, yet it’s unknown whether there are sufficient funds for the total repayment and how larger creditors will fare as proceedings continue.
