Waves Enterprise launches blockchain service for online voting

CryptoMode Waves Enterprise

Frankfurt-am-Main, November 18, 2020 –  Waves Enterprise brings a new solution: a blockchain-based e-voting service. The technology will ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data at all electoral process stages: from recording a voter’s choiсe to counting the results.

Unlike many other e-voting services, Waves Enterprise uses blockchain at all stages of the voting process, not just for keeping final results. The distributed architecture with no single point of failure guarantees the immutability of voting data and complete transparency for any participant in the process. Smart contracts prohibit unauthorized participants’ access to voting and check all user actions for authenticity.

Together with the blockchain, the service uses advanced cryptographic methods that provide high-level confidentiality and protection against interference in elections by illegitimate parties. Thanks to the decentralization of encryption servers and distributed key generation, each voter can be sure that their choice is anonymous and counted. The service also uses homomorphic encryption, enabling counting votes without decrypting them, which ensures ballot secrecy.

As a result of using Waves Enterprises technologies during the last federal elections in Russia, we received high assessments of our solution. Our e-voting service, which uses a similar tech stack, has been in the public testing stage for the last six months, and now we are ready to release it for wide commercial use. In connection with the events of 2020, we see interest in new approaches to e-voting, both from business and from government institutions,” says Artem Kalikhov, Waves Enterprise Chief Product Officer.

Waves Enterprise blockchain platform’s high performance allows processing thousands of transactions per second. This is why the service is suitable for any-scale voting: from board meetings and shareholders voting to national elections.

The e-voting system, developed for Russian Central Election Commission by Rostelecom and Waves Enterprise based on this service’s tech stack, was applied during Russia’s Single voting day in the Kursk and Yaroslavl regions in September 2020. More than 30,000 people took part in the voting.
