The Secondary Phone Repair Economy

phone repair revolution

Does your phone currently have a cracked screen or a battery that just won’t stay charged? You’re far from alone, as you might have guessed. Right now in the US, a smartphone screen is cracked every 2 seconds and 95 million smartphones are damaged by drops every single year. That totals to 29.8 billion dollars in electronic devices.

Seventy-two percent of people have broken a smartphone and, if you’ve done it once, you’re 2x as likely to do it again. Forty-four percent of people were not using a phone case at the time of damage, but 55% add or upgrade their case after a break. Screens and batteries are the most likely things to break and it’s most likely to happen in a car or parking lot. Eleven percent of smartphones also receive water damage every year, which amounts to 100,000 phones per day.

While 62% of women will continue using a broken phone and 55% of men will repair small aesthetic damage, overall 59% of people would rather upgrade than fix their old devices, but is that the best choice?

It may be a good idea to reconsider your options when your phone breaks. Replacing your smartphone usually costs hundreds of dollars and repairing your smartphone can often save you money. Repairing also has less of a negative impact on the environment. Repairing is often the simplest and smartest way to go.
