eBay has conducted a study in their recommerce report of the secondhand economy, which thankfully has been on an upward trend. Some interesting stats of note include that the average US household has 36 items that can be resold worth $3,675. In addition, Gen Z is leading the way in this trend, 81% of Gen Z say buying pre-owned has become more common in the last year.
In terms of sustainability, last year, eBay conserved an additional 720,000 metric tons of carbon emissions through people selling their pre owned electronics and apparel on the platform. See more in the full report and visuals below:
