The daily revenue of the AI agent platform Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) has dropped dramatically.
DefiLlama data indicates that this protocol’s daily revenue has been decreasing since reaching its highest point on Jan. 15. On Jan. 20, the revenue had fallen to $61,960 from $356,210 on Jan. 15.
This sharp decline of over 86% has raised concerns among crypto community members, with many wondering about the possible cause.
Did the Meme Coins craze Contribute to the Decline In Virtuals Protocol Revenue?
The growing popularity of meme currencies, especially TRUMP and MELANIA tokens, could be a factor in the protocol’s significant revenue loss. Over the past three days, these Trump-themed meme coins have taken center stage in the crypto market.
As these coins became more popular, they attracted liquidity from other crypto market sectors, including AI agents. Hence, it was no surprise that the market capitalization of this AI agent token fell by 4.2% in the last day.
Following social media hype, investors moved their funds to invest these meme coins.

Attention Shifts and Revenue Decline
An X user stated that value dilution could have caused the sharp drop in Virtuals Protocol’s earnings. They noted that there’s a stretch in user attention following the launch of many projects within a short timeframe
They tweeted that attention is the most significant value driver, but it won’t have the desired effect if it spreads too widely. According to them, this explanation is relevant in the cryptocurrency market, where attention is frequently more important than a project’s fundamentals.
This narrative explains why traders pay great attention to meme-themed cryptocurrencies rather than those with strong fundamentals and use cases. Hence, crypto community members make various recommendations to help the Virtuals Protocol recover from its sharp revenue loss.
One suggestion is for the protocol’s team to demonstrate further the multiple uses of AI agents within its ecosystem. This would enable it to attract new users and possibly draw back those who have followed the meme coin craze.
