Tether Holdings SA announced a $100 million strategic investment in Anchorage Digital Bank NA, a federally chartered digital asset bank in the United States, in a deal that values the institution at about $4.2 billion.
The deal, confirmed by company statements and market reporting on Feb. 5, 2026, deepens a partnership between the world’s largest stablecoin issuer and one of the few U.S.-regulated digital asset banks, marking a notable milestone in mainstream financial adoption of crypto infrastructure.
Anchorage Digital Bank NA, the banking arm of Anchorage Digital, became the first federally chartered digital asset bank in U.S. history after the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted it a national trust charter in January 2021. That charter places the bank under direct federal supervision and allows it to operate regulated services across the country.
The $100 million equity investment comes amid a broader strategic alignment. Tether, best known for its stablecoin USDT, has shifted focus toward regulated offerings in the U.S. market, notably through the launch of a new federally compliant stablecoin called USAâ‚® issued by Anchorage Digital Bank under the GENIUS Act framework.
Anchorage Digital officials described the investment as validation of the bank’s role in building regulated infrastructure. In a recent company release, Anchorage noted that Issuance of USA₮ bridges crypto and traditional finance through federal oversight and aligns with institutional compliance requirements.
In its announcement, Tether emphasized the strategic nature of the partnership. The company said the investment reflects confidence in Anchorage’s ability to support key infrastructure services, including custody, staking, settlement, and stablecoin services for institutional clients.
Anchorage Digital itself has been backed by major institutional investors over the past several years, and its regulated status has been central to its expansion into custody and stablecoin issuance. The bank’s federal charter enables it to offer services under established U.S. banking law, which remains a touchstone for institutional participation in digital assets.
The deal also underscores Tether’s ongoing push into the regulated U.S. crypto market after prior regulatory scrutiny of its global stablecoins. By investing in Anchorage, Tether expands its presence within a compliant banking framework at a time when federal stablecoin rules are taking shape.
Market And Sector Implications
Industry analysts see the investment as a signal of maturation for regulated crypto services in the United States. Anchorage Digital’s charter and regulatory standing provide a pathway for stablecoins and other tokenized assets to operate under federal supervision, a priority for many institutional investors and financial firms.
Anchorage’s involvement in issuing USA₮ positions it as a central player in the nascent but fast-growing regulated digital dollar market. The GENIUS Act, passed by Congress, sets standards for federally compliant stablecoin issuance, including capital, auditing, and oversight requirements, creating a clearer regulatory path for U.S. stablecoins.
