Since the onset of the COVID pandemic in 2020, the number of people working remotely and companies running their business online has skyrocketed to an unprecedented number. This trend, which has been on a slow rise for the past decade, has been given a pandemic turbo boost, as quarantines and office closures brought 88% of all businesses to require a remote work structure. This is certainly not a bad thing from many angles. In fact, now that we are four months past the infamous 2020, 80% of executives are planning to continue allowing remote work, and 96% of employees are happy to extend this arrangement. Even with all its benefits, remote work does produce some new challenges which businesses and remote employees must face and resolve quickly in order for productivity to return or to surpass pre-pandemic levels. One of the most pressing issues is the problems with network connectivity.
In surveys of remote workers, speed, security, and network reliability were some of the greatest deterrents to getting the job done. In fact, 94% of professionals report facing these and other challenges while working remotely. Thirty-five percent report being unable to complete their work due to slow or unreliable networks and another 43% state that they had to resort to using phones or hotspots at the height of the COVID quarantines. In-home data usage also got the COVID turbo boost and jumped by 38% in 2020.
