A cryptocurrency named Miss Universe Coin was unveiled recently at the Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW). However, the Miss Universe Organization soon issued a statement dismissing any affiliation with the coin. It has raised eyebrows and questions about the legitimacy of the project.
There Is No Legitimate Miss Universe Cryptocurrency
At the commencement of the PBW, Donald Lim, the visionary behind the organizing committee, proclaimed the launch of a new cryptocurrency dubbed the “Miss Universe Coin.”
In swift response, the Miss Universe Organization, alongside JKN Global Group, the powerhouse behind the global pageant, categorically denied any involvement with the proclaimed coin initiative. On their official Facebook page, on September 22nd, they voiced concerns about potential infringement and hinted at exploring legal avenues.
The organization clarified, “There is no official Miss Universe cryptocurrency or any blockchain offering. Moreover, such products have no bearing on the voting or selection procedures of either Miss Universe or the Miss Universe Philippines pageants.”
Representatives from the organization expressed strong reservations about the coin’s legitimacy, branding it as a “fraud.” They further warned, “There’s a possibility of this project being showcased at future blockchain conventions, especially in locations like Dubai and Singapore. We urge caution and request avoidance of any coverage.”
PBW’s Uneasy Position
Meanwhile, PBW has acknowledged the controversy. They confirmed they are in dialogues with all relevant stakeholders and anticipate releasing a detailed update shortly.
It would not be the first time a scam coin has tried to capitalize on current events or hype. Although Miss Universe isn’t on the level of a Champion’s League final or Super Bowl halftime performance, it still attracts a global audience.
As the line between legitimate business ventures and questionable initiatives continues to blur, especially in the rapidly evolving blockchain and cryptocurrency realm, stakeholders and the public alike are encouraged to exercise diligence and prudence.
