Founded by the Winklevoss twins in 2014, Gemini announced yesterday that it was availing the services of former New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) executive Robert Cornish as their new CTO.
From an experience standpoint, Cornish has previously worked as the NYSE’s chief information officer as well as an executive for many other established organizations including the International Securities Exchange.
Details of the Latest Hiring
When asked about this latest move in a recent interview, Gemini President, Cameron Winklevoss said that Cornish brings to the table a ‘vast array of experience working inside large exchanges like the NYSE’.
Winklevoss then continued to more shower praise on Cornish by saying:
“He understands what a large, regulated, engineering organization looks and feels like. As much as we are a technology startup, we are also a regulated trust company.”
It is expected that Cornish will take up his latest duties by the end of this month. His work will include the overseeing of Gemini’s tech and strategy deployment as well as managing Nasdaq’s upcoming SMARTS Market Surveillance technology.
The hiring of experienced financial players such as Cornish is nothing new to the alt-asset industry and in some ways is even becoming a sort of trend, especially since Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin have started to gain more and more traction.
Lastly, it is also worth mentioning that in May, Gemini became the first licensed Zcash exchange in the world. As per reports, the company is also planning on extending its offerings to encompass other major digital currencies such as Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin in the near future.
