Gatehub Data Breach Could Affect over 1.4 Million Users

Data breaches and theft of information have become incredibly common over the past few years. The most recent breach affects millions of users across the GateHub and EpicBot services.

GateHub is a popular cryptocurrency wallet service, whereas EpicBot provides video game botting services.

The Gatehub Data Breach Becomes Worse

The company affected the worst is GateHub, with over 1,4 million users accounts having their information exposed.

Among the information obtained by the criminals are email addresses and passwords.

Luckily, the passwords belonging to both services are cryptographically hashed, thus they should be difficult to crack.

However, it appears the GateHub database also includes 2FA keys, mnemonic phrases, and wallet hashes.

For the time being, none of the wallets have been accessed, albeit that situation can come to change fairly quickly.

It would appear the stolen information is currently offered for sale on the Dark Web, according to some users.

It is not the first time the Gatehub services makes headlines for the wrong reasons.

Earlier this year, the company reported it had been hacked in an attempt to steal information of roughly 18,000 users.

While that attempt failed, for the most part, it is evident that this latest attack has proven to be far more successful.

It is possible that both of these incidents are related to one another, albeit the company has not confirmed as much.

For the affected users, it is pertinent to change one’s password, mnemonic phrases, et cetera.

It might also be a smart idea to move any funds off GateHub as quickly as possible.

Online wallet services, while convenient, should never be used to store cryptocurrency funds for longer periods of times.
