The world is just getting used to how crypto works and how big it will be in the next few years. Although there has been a decline since 2021, many sports teams are still teaming up with many crypto companies for huge deals. However, will there be main deals with crypto companies on the front of shirts?
Shirt sponsors importance
Each Premier League side this year has a main sponsor, apart from Nottingham Forest who have not agreed on a deal with a company perhaps they need to look at top forex brokers and grab one of them, and all these companies will have their companies’ name splashed all over the world as the Premier League is the biggest football league in the world.
Shirt sponsors also have the ability to make the shirt that teams wear more iconic. If you look at Manchester United and Sharp, Liverpool and Carlsberg or Arsenal and Sega, fans will remember the kit because of the sponsor. It could be one day that the crypto company helps make a shirt iconic.
Does a team not have a crypto deal in the Premier League?
Unfortunately, no club has a front sponsor for a crypto company but that is more than likely going to change in the next two seasons. However, many clubs in the Premier League have been striking up deals with crypto companies.
Manchester United and Manchester City have deals with companies that sponsor their training kit. Tezos sponsors Manchester United and OKX sponsor Manchester City.
However, West Ham United and Arsenal both had deals with Socios.com and CashBet for token-related work. It was a big step forward for fans in terms of blockchain.
Socios.com also have deals with Arsenal (as well as CashBet) Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United and champions Manchester City to help with fan engagement.
Is anybody close to making a crypto company their main sponsor?
There are two clubs that could possibly make their main sponsor a crypto company and they are two of the biggest clubs in the league.
This season Chelsea have included the crypto company WhaleFin on their sleeve sponsors. It is one step closer to the front of the shirt and closer than any other company has been. With a recent change in ownership at the London club then we could possibly see a crypto company replace the mobile phone company Three.
However, the closest at the moment, according to the rumour mill, is Liverpool. The 2019/20 champions are currently sponsored by Standard Chartered and have been since 2010/11 but this could all change next season.
The deal is set to expire in 2023 and this opens up the possibility of a crypto company taking the front sponsorship. With Liverpool delving into the NFT business as well, it would not come as a surprise if they became the first side.
The Premier League has seen betting companies, alcoholic drinks, utility companies, and many other companies, so why not crypto?
