The asphalt recovery market is a $7.1 billion industry! With asphalt demands projected to rise 3% each year, recycling programs are popping up all over the country. There are more than 50 roofing recovery sites in more than 20 states with a projected CAGR of 5.9% by 2027. Clearly there are financial benefits to the asphalt recovery market, but one of the most notable aspects of asphalt recovery is the benefit to the environment.

Asphalt recycling most obviously lessens the amount of asphalt that is being newly produced. This prevents 2.4 million metric tons of CO2e from entering the atmosphere and has the potential to reduce greenhouse gasses by up to 61%! Recycling already produced asphalt also prevents 11 tons of shingle waste from entering landfills across the country.

Between greenhouse gasses and metric tons of waste being produced from asphalt production, it is important to take the necessary steps to continue using asphalt for its necessary uses but also ensure we are protecting the planet. Asphalt is the most recyclable material on Earth, it should be used as such.
